A Polish border patrol drone was electronically neutralised by German officers while flying in Polish airspace. The opposition calls it an unprecedented breach.

German police officers jammed the signal of a Polish civilian drone operating on Polish territory that was being used by volunteers monitoring migrant movements.

Opposition conservative Law and Justice (PiS) MP Kacper Płażyński denounced what he called a blatant violation of Polish sovereignty.

The drone belonged to members of Poland’s Civic Border Defence Movement, a grassroots volunteer group that patrols areas near the western, German border to monitor and report on migrant crossings.

Though it remained in Polish airspace, the drone was electronically jammed after it approached Germany. German officers used signal-disruption equipment to neutralize it, citing safety concerns.

“This is our territory. Such a situation can never happen again. This is a really unbelievable scandal, and we will demand full information from the government of Tusk,” Kacper Płażyński said on Tuesday, July 8th.

The Polish Border Defence Movement was set up in response to German police cars secretly dropping off illegal migrants on small country roads on the Polish side of the border.

Even though Poland temporarily reintroduced border controls with Germany and Lithuania on Monday, July 7th, many Poles believe the Donald Tusk-led liberal-leftist government is not doing enough to solve the problem.

According to another PiS MP, Dariusz Matecki, “the Germans are massively using thermal imaging drones along the border, which is how they know where people patrolling the border are and where they can push migrants through.”
