Germany’s train stations and trains are becoming more dangerous, according to a new report from the Federal Police.

In 2024, sexual offenses on trains and at stations rose by 19.2%, with over 2,200 cases reported. Most involved sexual harassment, while a smaller number included assault, rape, or abuse of minors.

Violent crimes also increased, reaching 27,160 cases with knives used in 609 incidents. Attacks on railway police officers rose by about 10%, often involving everyday objects like bottles or stones.

Despite the increasing violence, the total number of crimes on trains decreased by 10%, largely due to fewer detections of illegal entry into Germany.
