Dozens of activists from the group Animal Rebellion staged a protest outside the Müllermilch dairy in Leppersdorf on Wednesday morning.
Some demonstrators glued themselves to the roadway around 5:30 a.m., while others displayed banners reading “Cow’s milk for the calves.”
The dairy, part of the Müller Group, processes approximately 4.7 million liters of fresh milk daily.
Operations were significantly impeded during the protest, though no clashes were reported. Police were on site, and authorities confirmed the gathering was not officially registered.
Animal Rebellion activists oppose all animal products, labeling them as “products of violence.” The protest also targeted Müllermilch for allegedly having connections to the AfD.
Frank Peschel, economic policy spokesperson for the AfD in Saxony’s state parliament, criticized the government for its lenient approach toward ”militant left-wing extremists.”
Peschel argued that police could have ended the blockade quickly but that similar attacks in the past, such as those on DHL at Leipzig airport, have caused significant financial losses.
The events at Müllermilch show the growing boldness of activists targeting companies for supposed AfD connections, raising concerns over public order and security.
