Germany instructed its nationals to quit Iran from late on Thursday, August 29, following Europe’s threat to impose sanctions on the Islamic Republic.
In addition to leaving Iran, Germans are being told they should stay away. There’s concern on the part of Germany (and some of its allies) that Iran may retaliate after the European threat.
The German Foreign Office website now states
Since Iranian government officials have repeatedly threatened consequences in the past, it cannot be ruled out that German interests and nationals will be affected by countermeasures in Iran.
The official advice follows the to-date unsuccessful European Union negotiating efforts with the Islamic Republic to prevent the military development of its nuclear programme.
