Two residents were seriously injured in a knife attack at a refugee shelter in Kusel, Rhineland-Palatinate.
On Sunday, September 21st, police arrested a 29-year-old man suspected of carrying out the attack the night before. Further details about the suspect remain unknown to the public, and authorities have not yet identified a motive.
According to SWR Aktuell, citing the Westpfalz Police Headquarters, the suspect was apprehended in Altenglan, District of Kusel, following a tip-off from a witness. He reportedly offered no resistance during the arrest. Police said the man is currently exercising his right to remain silent and will be presented to an investigative judge.
Investigations into the attack and its motive are ongoing.
The victims remain in hospital with serious injuries, but their lives are not in danger.
With the suspect in custody, the police removed the manhunt notice, including the suspect’s name and photo, from their website. Press releases and social media posts related to the case were also taken offline.
Last month, a separate knife attack occurred in a refugee shelter in Güstrow, northern Germany, when a 23-year-old Afghan asylum seeker stabbed two fellow residents. One victim, 25, was killed at the scene, while the other was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries.
