Headlines have dominated German media for days purporting a rise in “right-wing extremist crimes,” after the Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA) published its latest report on politically motivated crimes on Tuesday, May 20th.
According to the BKA, right-wing motivated crimes increased from 30,000 in 2023 to 43,000 in 2024.
However, a closer look at the figures reveals that “right-wing” crimes are more than exaggerated.
As Apollo News reports, a large proportion, 61.5% of “right-wing” crimes are so-called “propaganda offences”—generally meaning the use and dissemination of symbols linked to organisations that are classified as terrorist, or are outlawed.
Most of these “crimes” concern the use of prohibited Nazi symbols, such as swastikas and SS runes. But the absurdity of these statistics is that they are classified as “right-wing” offences even if left-wing radicals vandalise a poster of a conservative politician with graffiti, depicting a swastika.
As Apollo News points out, distorted statistics like these are often cited by the liberal ruling elites as a cause for persecuting perfectly legitimate right-wing parties and organisations.
