Greek Vice-President Adonis Georgiadis expressed his support for President Trump in an interview with Breitbart last week. The politician described President Trump’s election victory in November as “unique in political history.”

Georgiadis noted that imposing the tariffs must have been a “very difficult decision” for the president, but “necessary” due to the U.S.’s economic woes: “I have knowledge that the American deficit was huge … he had to take some radical decisions.”

“I believe in the West,” Georgiadis told Breitbart. “The West will not survive without a strong United States. The United States is the natural leader of the West. So, for me as a politician that believes in the West, a strong United States is a strong West.” He added:

A weak United States is a weak West. I hope he [Trump] will succeed.

The politician’s statements come at a critical time of the Trump administration. President Trump admittedly made a lot of enemies in the European Union by imposing tariffs on European products, which some fear could spiral into a trade war. While the liberal West is keen to ‘retaliate’, conservative governments realize this is the time to make their alliance with the U.S. stronger. Along with Hungary, Slovakia and Italy, Greece seems to be on path to strengthen its ties with Washington.
