Greta Thunberg has been arrested at a Palestine Action protest in central London after displaying a sign in support of the proscribed terror group.
The Swedish climate activist, 22, was detained outside the Aspen Insurance building on Fenchurch Street on Tuesday, December 23rd. She was seen sitting on the ground holding a placard reading: “I support the Palestine Action prisoners. I oppose genocide.”
City of London Police said Thunberg was arrested on suspicion of displaying an item in support of a proscribed organisation, contrary to Section 13 of the Terrorism Act 2000. Palestine Action was banned in June.
Earlier, two activists were arrested on suspicion of criminal damage after hammers and red paint were used to target the building, reportedly using repurposed fire extinguishers. Police said specialist officers were deployed to remove the suspects, who had glued themselves nearby.
Video footage showed officers removing Thunberg’s sign before leading her away from the scene.
