Ilaria Salis may think she’s scoring points in Brussels, but in Budapest, even the Left are distancing themselves from her controversial plans.

András Jámbor, seen by some as the face of the Hungarian Left, has criticised Ilaria Salis MEP for threatening to join this year’s banned Budapest Pride event. While for now it appears as if Brussels is backing down from confronting the Hungarian government, some MEPs are still spoiling for a fight.

Yet one of them, Ilaria Salis, is seen as a nuisance by her potential comrades. According to Jámbor

She comes here to the Gay Pride for her popularity, we pay for the effects.

Hammer Girl’ Salis indicated her intention to participate in Gay Pride in Budapest on her Instagram account. To the Hungarian leftist, she “has an individualistic attitude and wants to ingratiate herself with her Western ‘comrades’,’ fighting battles ‘without knowing anything’ about Hungary’s problems.” Ouch!

This is not the first time that Jámbor has needed to distance himself from the ‘Hammer Gang.’ In 2023 his parliamentary colleague Krisztina Dobos’s partner Antifa activist András Egyed committed suicide—coinciding with the revelation of a huge cache of child pornography in their shared home—shortly after providing an alibi for Dobos, who herself was linked to Hammer Gang violence. Salis’s return to Budapest could once again dredge up this awkward recent history.
