The first outdoor action initiated by ‘Hate or Pride? Pick a Side’ got off to a promising start on Monday, June 23rd—if by ‘promising,’ you mean terrible.
It seems that the pro-censorship British campaign aiming to bring down GB News is finding it harder to operate in the ‘physical world’ than it does online. Just five protesters turned up—two of whom were dressed like they are mentally ill—to picket establishment fashion house Burberry for the crime of advertising on the right-leaning UK TV channel featuring Reform UK leader Nigel Farage.
The essence of the campaign is the allegation that GB News promotes ‘hate’ against “LGBTQ+” people and must therefore be starved of advertising revenue (even as its audience grows even faster than its roster of gay contributors).
Even on X—where deluded campaign co-organisers the Good Law Project (GLP) and Stop Funding Hate think they excel—the bulk of X commentary was around the luxury brand’s new brand ambassador singer Kim Seungmin.
It’s likely Burberry barely noticed the demonstration, which didn’t make GB News either. Nevertheless, the self-beclowning GLP chief and would-be censor Jolyon Maugham should be strongly encouraged to keep up his pursuit of street-level protest—strictly for the purpose of public entertainment.
