Families, survivors, and rescuers joined hands at Maelbeek to remember the victims and mark a decade since the attacks.

A human chain was formed at Maelbeek metro station in Brussels on Saturday morning to mark the tenth anniversary of the March 22, 2016 attacks.

The initiative, supported by Brussels public transport operator STIB, brought together victims, their relatives, first responders, and members of the public in a tribute to those affected by the bombings and to recognise the efforts of emergency services on the day.

The gathering began at 10:00 and lasted through the late morning, with participants forming a human chain at the metro station, one of the sites targeted in the attacks.

Organisers encouraged attendees to wear uniforms if they had them, or white clothing to reflect the neutrality and solemn nature of the commemoration.

Maelbeek station remains a highly symbolic location, having been one of the sites hit during the 2016 attacks that shook Brussels and the wider country.

The human chain was filmed and will feature in footage during an official commemorative ceremony scheduled for Sunday at Schuman, which is expected to be attended by authorities.
