“This was the most brutal statement I’ve heard in the almost 11 years of my career," the minister said.

Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó reacted to the statements by EU Foreign Policy High Representative Kaja Kallas, who the FM says does not respect Hungarian minority rights.

Following Szijjártó’s remarks about the state of minorities in Ukraine, and his raising the question of why Hungarian minorities are treated badly in the Transcarpathian region, Kallas answered:

We are protecting the minority rights within the EU and not outside of it.

FM Szijjártó called the statement scandalous and said Hungary would block the Ukraine ascension talks until Brussels is willing to address the situation appropriately.

After the press conference, the foreign minister said, “We in the age of dangers will protect the peace and security of Hungary, defend the Hungarians in and outside our borders and protect the Hungarian nation’s and Hungarian economy’s interests, however big the pressure is.”
