Brussels is advocating for the safety of a Communist dictator oppressing Venezuela instead of siding with their long-time NATO ally.

Hungary became the only member state of the European Union that did not support Brussels’ position on the recent U.S.-led operation in Venezuela, as Kaja Kallas took to X to denounce Washington and urge President Trump to adhere to international law and core United Nations values.

Kallas’ post boasted how 26 members of the Bloc immediately supported the position of Brussels. In contrast, János Bóka—Hungarian Minister for EU Affairs—spoke out on Hungary’s reasons for staying out of the pack.

Bóka explained that the statement only showcased the crisis of the Union’s common foreign policy:

a sign of weakness and a fundamental misunderstanding.

The minister stressed that the EU has failed once again to become a meaningful actor on international matters, suggesting Brussels holds empty conference calls and issues broad statements—while the actual superpowers of international politics can impose their will across the world.

According to the Hungarian government, the fate of a Communist dictator is more important to the EU than strong US-EU relations. Bóka pointed out that his Foreign Ministry made sure that no Hungarian nationals were hurt in the military offensive and made help available to those citizens currently in Venezuela.
