Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said on Thursday, June 26th, that a nationwide consultation in which more than 95% of respondents were against Ukraine’s EU accession gave him a “strong mandate” to oppose Kyiv’s integration at the European Union summit in Brussels.
About 2.3 million people participated in the mail-in and online ballot, which was conducted over 67 days.
The Hungarian PM’s political director Balázs Orbán shared on X the results of the survey on Thursday.

❌ No to Ukraine’s EU membership.

2.28 million participants
95% said NO
That’s over 2.1 million Hungarians rejecting Brussels' pro-war, reckless agenda.

“I arrived here with a strong mandate,” Orbán told reporters in Brussels before attending the European Council this morning, adding:
After all, it is on behalf of more than two million Hungarians that I will say today at the negotiations that Hungary does not support Ukraine’s accession to the European Union.
Kyiv, unsurprisingly, has dismissed the significance of the public consultation. The government of Ukraine accused Budapest of manipulating the public with “anti-Ukrainian hysteria” to distract from its “failures” at home.
A May Eurobarometer poll showed that 60% of Hungarians oppose Ukraine’s accession to the European Union.
