The next round of nuclear talks between Iran and the United States will be held in Rome on Saturday, not Oman as originally claimed by Iranian officials, according to Iranian state media. “The second round of Iran-US nuclear talks will be held next Saturday in Rome… and the Omani foreign ministry will be hosting the talks,” Iran’s state TV confirmed, following earlier European reports.
Despite confirmation from both Italy and Oman, Iran appeared frustrated by the shift. Foreign ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei accused unnamed “extremist elements” of promoting the venue change, calling it a threat to progress. Critics suggest the outburst reflects Tehran’s unease with mounting international pressure.
Last week, President Donald Trump announced the start of “direct, high-level talks” aimed at curbing Iran’s nuclear ambitions. Iran downplayed the dialogue as “indirect.” “It is as much an opportunity as it is a test. The ball is in America’s court,” said Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.
