An Iranian lawmaker has warned that Ukraine could become a “legitimate target” for Iran after accusing Kyiv of supporting Israel with drones amid the escalating Middle East conflict.

Ibrahim Azizi, head of the Iranian parliament’s National Security Commission, claimed that providing drone support to Israel would amount to direct participation in hostilities against Iran. According to Azizi, such involvement would give Tehran the right to respond under international law.

In a post on X, Azizi argued that Ukraine had effectively entered the conflict. “By providing drone support to the Israeli regime, failed Ukraine has effectively become involved in the War,” he wrote.

The Iranian lawmaker invoked Article 51 of the United Nations Charter, which recognizes a state’s right to self-defense if it comes under attack.

However, Azizi did not provide evidence to support the claim that Ukraine has supplied drones to Israel.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky met with Reza Pahlavi, the son of Iran’s last shah, during a meeting in Paris on Friday. Pahlavi, who lives in exile in the United States, has presented himself as a potential transitional leader if the Islamic Republic collapses.

Following the meeting, Zelensky said Ukraine supports democratic change in Iran. “Ukraine truly wants to see a free Iran that will not cooperate with Russia or destabilize the Middle East, Europe, and the world,” he wrote on X.
