A 23-year-old Iraqi asylum seeker based in Sweden repeatedly harassed women and a child in Dresden, Germany. Despite numerous arrests, he was released multiple times.
Subsequent legal proceedings were initiated against him in a local court, where the prosecution determined he is mentally ill and should be placed in a psychiatric facility. The court now needs to assess whether he has paranoid schizophrenia—to decide if he can be held in custody permanently.
Security sources say he will be deported but it’s not clear where to. The trial continues behind closed doors.
Last year ongoing sexual harassment reached the point where the German Greens called for women-only carriages on trains.
