More than 400 Islamic State jihadis have now re-entered Britain without penalty, according to Robert Jenrick MP, the Tory Shadow Justice Secretary, drawing on a report supported by Lord Alton, head of the UK’s Joint Committee on Human Rights.
Fighters for Daesh, as ISIS is also known, actually denied human rights in numerous terror campaigns in Iraq and Syria, including murder, rape, and the taking of slaves. Returnees are now resettling in Britain, having volunteered for the Islamist group at the height of its powers in the Middle East and Levant.
According to Lord Alton,
We know that British nationals committed the most horrendous crimes in Iraq and Syria under the Daesh [IS] regime and we have a duty to see them brought to justice.
Additional British citizens who fought for ISIS are possibly detained in Syrian camps, where recent regime change may allow for their release without penalty.
