Israel’s Foreign Minister Gideon Saar on Wednesday condemned remarks by EU chief Ursula von der Leyen, who vowed to seek sanctions against  Israeli ministers and limit trade ties over the worsening situation in Gaza.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen outlined a plan to halt all EU payments to Israel, while continuing to support Israeli civil society organizations and Yad Vashem. She added that the European Commission would act independently, without waiting for majority approval.

“The remarks made this morning by the President of the European Commission are regrettable. Some of them also echo the false propaganda of Hamas and its partners” Gideon Saar wrote on X, adding

Once again, Europe is sending the wrong message, which strengthens Hamas and the radical axis in the Middle East.
