“The idea of total disarmament is unacceptable,” a surviving top Hamas leader told Al Jazeera.

Israel said on Thursday, December 11 that Hamas “will be disarmed” as part of the U.S.-backed peace plan for Gaza—after a senior leader of the terrorist organization suggested the possibility of a weapons freeze.

The ceasefire, in effect since October 10, brought an end to the war that began after Hamas’s deadly pogrom began against Israel on October 7, 2023. However, it remains fragile, with Israel and Hamas accusing each other almost daily of violations.

Top Hamas leader Khaled Meshaal told the Qatari news channel Al Jazeera that the terrorist organization is open to a weapons “freeze,” but rejects the demand for full disarmament outlined in Trump’s plan for the Palestinian territory.

However, an Israeli government official stated that

there will be no future for Hamas under the 20-point plan. The terrorist group will be disarmed, and Gaza will be demilitarised.
