Israel’s security cabinet is expected to meet later today to discuss future military plans in Gaza, according to Israeli media reports, amid speculation of a full takeover of the territory.
The planned meeting comes as international criticism mounts over the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza that some blame on Israel, with much less concern shown for the hostages still alive that are being starved and tortured by Hamas.
The Times of Israel said the meeting is set to commence around 6:00 p.m. local time.
The Israeli press, citing officials speaking on condition of anonymity, has predicted Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will seek approval on expanding operations, including in pockets of densely populated areas where hostages are believed to be held, such as Gaza City.
On Wednesday, the IDF announced a fresh evacuation call for portions of Gaza City in the north, and Khan Yunis in the south, where a spokesman said ground forces were set to “expand the scope of combat operations.”
