Israel has indicated it wants to bring its military campaign against Iran to a close, as of Monday, June 23rd. According to reports, Jerusalem has sent a message to Tehran through mediators, expressing its wish to end the operation in the coming days.
Israel’s Channel 11 reported that the message read, “We want to end the war,” to which Iran replied, “The time is not yet come.”
Israeli officials say the goal of the campaign is to eliminate Iran’s ability to threaten Israel with nuclear weapons and long-range ballistic missiles. Channel 12 reports that decision-makers in Jerusalem believe these objectives could be achieved within days.
“It depends on Iran, not on us,” an Israeli official said on Sunday. “We are happy to wrap it up now; if there’s an agreement at the end, Israel will be content with the result.”
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reinforced that message on Sunday evening. “When the objectives are achieved, then the operation is complete, and the fighting will stop… we are moving step by step towards achieving these goals. We are very, very close to completing them.”
