On Monday, September 8, a series of strikes hit eastern Lebanon. The Lebanese state-run National News Agency reported seven strikes in the Hermel region. The Israeli army said it targeted positions belonging to the Iran-backed Hezbollah terrorist organization in the Bekaa Valley, including what it described as training compounds used by the military group’s elite Radwan force.

The IDF reported that Hezbollah activities and weapons at the sites constituted a “blatant violation” of an agreement struck last November to bring an end to more than a year of hostilities between the militants and Israel.

Monday’s attacks come after Lebanon’s government said last week that its military would begin implementing a plan to disarm Hezbollah, without disclosing details of the plan.

The government has characterized the disarmament push, which Hezbollah opposes, as part of the implementation of the ceasefire deal.
