An Israeli advocacy group called on Monday, October 6th, for U.S. president Donald Trump to receive the Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts to secure the release of hostages in Gaza.
In a letter sent to the Norwegian Nobel Committee, the Hostages and Missing Families Forum said Trump made “possible what many said was impossible.” The Forum publicized a key passage in its letter to the Committee, which states
We strongly urge you to award President Trump the Nobel Peace Prize because he has vowed he will not rest and will not stop until every last hostage is back home.
The group praised his “determination to bring peace” and highlighted a 20-point plan for negotiations between Israel and Hamas.
While Trump has expressed interest in the prize, experts view him as unlikely to win. Regardless of such negative speculation, Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu has favourably compared his U.S. counterpart to the ineffectual, pro-Palestine leaders of most European Union member states.
