The Lebanese Ministry of Health said three people were killed and several others wounded in Israeli air strikes on Saturday.
The Israeli army confirmed that it had carried out a strike near Sebaa, killing two smugglers from the Lebanese Resistance Brigades, an ally of Hezbollah.
“The terrorists were involved in smuggling weapons used by Hezbollah, and their activities were a flagrant violation of the agreements between Israel and Lebanon,” the Israeli army said, referring to the ceasefire aimed at ending more than a year of hostilities with the Iranian-backed militant group.
The Lebanese Ministry of Health later reported that one person was killed and four were wounded in a car explosion in the southern village of Baraashit. According to the authority, a similar Israeli strike on a car near a hospital on Saturday morning wounded seven people in the southern town of Bint Jbeil.
The latest attacks came as the European Union joined international concern over Israel’s continued air strikes, despite a ceasefire that has been in place for nearly a year.
Israel maintains that Lebanon is moving too slowly to disarm Hezbollah and insists that it has the right to carry out operations to protect its borders and citizens.
