Ventimiglia authorities arrested an Afghan migrant after a woman from the Netherlands suffered serious injuries in a street attack.

A 23-year-old Dutch woman was seriously assaulted in Ventimiglia, Italy, after being attacked and struck on the head, reportedly with a bottle. She was taken to Bordighera hospital for treatment and later released.

The assault took place on Via Tenda, a street in the northern Italian region of Liguria, near the French border. The suspect, a 28-year-old Afghan national—residing illegally in Italy and already known to authorities–—was arrested on the scene.

He is now in custody awaiting trial and facing charges of causing bodily harm.

The incident has prompted political reactions from Dutch politician Geert Wilders, who angrily took to X, stating:

Even abroad, our women are being harassed. This time by an Afghan. Europe is completely falling apart due to open borders. We don’t have a problem with men, but a problem with asylum, immigration, and Islam.

Wilders is campaigning hard around such issues ahead of the Netherlands’ upcoming October election.
