After weeks of delays, now German investigators can move against a suspect they believe was part of a group of Ukrainian pipeline plotters behind the blasts.

Italy will extradite a former Ukrainian armed forces officer who is suspected of the Nord Stream pipeline sabotage in 2022.

Serhii Kuznietsov denies taking part in the blasts that crippled the gas links between Russia and Europe. Italy had initially halted his extradition in October due to issues with the German arrest warrant, but reversed the decision after a review.

German prosecutors allege he used forged documents to charter a yacht used in the operation. Kuznietsov claims he was serving in Ukraine at the time—something his defence says should grant him immunity. His lawyers say they remain confident ahead of the German trial.
