The Vice President’s expected trip would reaffirm the Trump administration’s strong signal of support for Prime Minister Viktor Orbán.

Unnamed sources “familiar to the plan” have told Reuters, after Politico reporting the same, that U.S. Vice President JD Vance is set to travel to Hungary on April 7 and 8, just days ahead of the country’s April 12 parliamentary elections.

The trip would reaffirm the Trump administration’s strong signal of support for right-wing Prime Minister Viktor Orbán.

President Donald Trump has publicly endorsed the Hungarian PM, calling him a “truly strong and powerful leader” and urging citizens to vote in his favor.

The Vance visit would follow that of U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio in February.  Rubio also praised the Hungarian prime minister’s leadership and described the relationship between the United States and Hungary as being “as close as I can possibly imagine it being.”
