UK media say the announcement is coming today, adding that the Labour government may also impose sanctions on Israel.

Deputy Prime Minister David Lammy confirmed that Prime Minister Keir Starmer “will outline his position later today,” Sunday, September 21st. He did not confirm, however, whether full recognition would be granted. If that happens, UK will become the first G7 country to move toward official recognition of Palestinian statehood.

Further abandoning Israel fighting an existential war against Hamas and Hezbollah, the British Labour government may also impose sanctions on the only democracy in the Middle East, according to UK media reports.

Around ten countries, including France, Australia, Belgium, and Canada, are expected to recognise Palestine at the UN General Assembly starting next week.

The Portuguese Foreign Ministry has already stated that Lisbon “recognises the State of Palestine,” with an official announcement set for Sunday, September 21.
