A fatal knife attack at a utility company in the Bavarian town of Mellrichstadt has reignited concerns over the rise in violent knife-related crimes across Germany.
On Tuesday, July 1st, a 21-year-old man killed a 59-year-old female employee and seriously injuring two male colleagues aged 55 and 62 at the premises of the Überlandwerk Rhön company.
The suspect was quickly apprehended by police and remains in custody. The man’s motives are as yet unclear. He has been identified as a German national, and he, too, is an employee of the company.
Knife attacks are becoming alarmingly frequent in Germany, and the majority of perpetrators have turned out to be Afghan and Syrian migrants.According to Messerinzidenz, a website in Germany devoted to recording the number of knife attacks that happen in the country, there have already been almost 2,000 such incidents this year.
