Despite the planned diplomatic engagement, armed clashes and drone strikes continue to take a high toll on civilians on both sides.

Monday, February 2nd saw Russia confirm that talks with Ukraine and the U.S. in Abu Dhabi, originally scheduled for the weekend, have been moved to Wednesday, blaming a scheduling issue for the delay.

According to Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov

They were indeed originally planned for this past Sunday. But additional coordination of the schedules of the three parties was needed. Now, on Wednesday-Thursday, the second round will indeed take place. It will be held in Abu Dhabi. We can confirm that.

However, this diplomatic movement stands in stark contrast to the continued bloodshed on the ground. A devastating Russian drone attack on Sunday hit a bus carrying mineworkers in Ukraine’s Dnipropetrovsk region, killing at least 12 people.

On Monday, Ukraine retaliated with a UAV strike on Russia’s border region of Belgorod, which the regional governor claimed killed two civilians.
