White House envoy Steve Witkoff and U.S. president Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner are reportedly planning a trip to Moscow to meet Russian president Vladimir Putin.
According to Bloomberg News, the meeting could take place this month, though plans are not finalized and may be delayed due to unrest in Iran. A White House official told Bloomberg that no such meeting is currently scheduled.
The proposed discussions are expected to focus on the latest draft U.S. peace proposals regarding the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. Officials indicated that security guarantees from the United States and Europe would be part of the conversation, alongside plans for post-war reconstruction in Ukraine.
Meanwhile, the European Union has stated it is not yet ready to engage in talks with Russian leadership regarding Ukraine. On January 12th, EU spokeswoman Paula Pinho emphasized that it would be premature to hold discussions with President Putin at this time, despite recent calls from French and Italian leaders to re-engage with Moscow.
