A car bomb exploded in Kyiv on Sunday, January 4th, at round 10.30 a.m. after an explosive device hidden in the trunk of a parked SUV detonated in the courtyard of a residential building, according to the Kyiv City Prosecutor’s Office.
The incident took place in the Obolonskyi district of the Ukrainian capital when the vehicle’s trunk was opened, triggering the explosion. A person serving in the military was injured by shrapnel, prosecutors said, while a woman who was nearby escaped without injuries.

Authorities have launched a preliminary investigation under Article 258 of Ukraine’s Criminal Code, which covers terrorist acts involving explosions or other actions that pose a threat to human life or health.
