The “unfair” “temporary solution” might act as the prelude to a ceasefire in Ukraine.

Mayor of Kyiv Vitali Klitschko admitted that concessions to Russia may be necessary, in an interview with the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC).

The boxer-turned-politician suggested the move as a possible way to end the fighting, with Ukraine under pressure from President Donald Trump to accept territorial concessions. This could involve Crimea, which forcibly changed hands back in 2014, as well as parts of around a fifth of Ukrainian land currently under Russian occupation—something his people would “never accept” on a permanent basis.

Ultimately Klitschko sees opting for such a “painful solution” as the responsibility of his political rival President Volodymyr Zelensky, who cut short a diplomatic visit to South Africa following a lethal missile-and-drone assault on Kyiv.
