Denmark’s prime minister Mette Frederiksen has declared mass migration the “greatest threat” facing the Nordic countries. “I am a patriot. I love our country,” said the Social Democrat leader, warning that uncontrolled immigration undermines trust, public safety, and democratic values.
Her remarks mark a stark shift for a centre-left leader and reflect growing public frustration over failed integration and rising crime. Frederiksen insisted that too many migrants “do not share our democratic values” and said Denmark must act to protect national cohesion.
She also hinted at tougher deportation policies, suggesting mandatory returns of Syrian migrants from areas now deemed safe. “Voluntary return has always been possible. Now we must consider when to move to forced returns,” she said, echoing calls from conservative voices.
The speech signals a broader European trend: even traditional left-wing parties are waking up to the dangers of unchecked migration.
