An Iraqi man has been sentenced to life in prison in Iraq for recruiting citizens to fight for Russia against Ukraine, judicial officials said on Monday, September 29.

The Najaf Criminal Court ruled that the man, identified as Risan Falah Kamel, organized groups of fighters and sent them abroad in exchange for money, in violation of Iraq’s anti-human-trafficking laws.Officials said Kamel coordinated the travel and deployment of Iraqi recruits to join Russian forces, highlighting the use of human trafficking networks to support foreign conflicts.
