Uniformed Norfolk police officers will be banned from taking part in this year’s Norwich Pride procession and festival, scheduled for Saturday, July 26th.
The decision—outlined by assistant chief constable Chris Balmer—is a break with recent policy, where an official delegation of police ‘rainbow’ marchers participated annually, supported by an especially decorated Pride patrol car.
Preventing officers from marching in uniform follows a Newcastle judge’s ruling last week that Northumbria Police breached impartiality rules by marching in a transgender rights parade. A complainant argued that police demonstrating for ‘trans’(gender) rights would erode public confidence in their ability to serve the wider public, not least those with ‘gender critical’ views.
Writing on X, formerly Twitter, the Women’s Rights Network Norfolk wrote:
We welcome the return to lawful, fair and impartial policing by @NorfolkPolice, leaving Norwich Pride & its LGBTQIA+ pledge & Progress flag that promotes gender ideology and denies same-sex attraction and women’s sex-based rights to safety, dignity, privacy and fairness.
This is one of several recent legal reversals for the transgender lobby, most notably this year’s Supreme Court ruling defining ‘sex’ in law as biological.
