Italy and Spain are calling for safe navigation and coordinated aid delivery to Gaza, backed by naval vessels from at least one of the two European Union member states. Both countries’ leaders previously announced that they would send ships to assist the flotilla.
When explosions were reported on Tuesday, September 22, each state arrived at separate decisions to increase its involvement.
Volunteers from the Global Sumud Flotilla claim some of the ships involved in their Gaza ‘aid’ stunt were targeted in drone attacks. Subsequently, Italy’s Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni condemned the alleged attack and proposed handing the aid supplies in Cyprus over to the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem for delivery.
Not to be outdone, beleaguered Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez said Spain will send a patrol vessel to protect the flotilla. He also called for respect for international law and safe navigation in the Mediterranean.
Leftist irritant Owen Jones took to X and welcomed Spain’s suggestion:
Wow.
This is absolutely huge.
After the attacks, Spain is offering direct military protection to the flotilla bringing humanitarian aid to Gaza.
So what now, Israel?
Are you going to risk acts of war against a European nation so you can attack humanitarian vessels?
While its supporters encourage a Spanish-Israeli war, it’s not all plain sailing for the ‘selfie yacht’ fleet. Celebrity mascot Greta Thunberg stood down from its management group this week when tensions between ‘pro-Gaza’ and ‘queer’ activists proved impossible to contain.
