A 76-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of administering poison at a summer camp in Leicestershire, England. The arrest follows an incident on Monday in which eight children staying at the camp in the village of Stathern reported feeling unwell and were taken to hospital as a precaution. All have since been discharged.
The man was arrested at the scene and remains in police custody. Leicestershire Police have launched a full investigation and are working closely with partner agencies, including children’s services, to safeguard those involved. Detective Inspector Neil Holden acknowledged the concern caused and said support is being provided to the affected families and the wider community.
The force has also referred itself to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) over the handling of its initial response, describing the case as a “complex and sensitive investigation.” Officers remain at the scene as enquiries continue.
