During a violent attack on a Manchester Synagogue, the perpetrator reportedly called police to “pledge allegiance” to the Islamic State terrorist group, British counter-terrorism authorities confirmed on Wednesday, October 8th.
Two people were killed and at least three injured on October 2nd, when a knife-wielding driver attacked the Heaton Park synagogue in Crumpsall, Manchester. The suspect, 35-year-old Jihad Al-Shamie, was shot by armed officers after he drove a vehicle into a group of worshippers while wearing a fake suicide vest, before stabbing and attempting to stab local Jews.
Adrian Daulby, 53, and Melvin Cravitz, 66, were killed, while three others were seriously wounded in Thursday’s attack in Manchester, which took place on Yom Kippur—the holiest day of the Jewish calendar.
A spokesperson for Counter Terrorism Policing in northwest England stated
in the initial stages of the attack … a call was made by the attacker to police claiming to pledge allegiance to the so-called Islamic State.
A UK police watchdog is investigating both the police shooting of Shamie and the circumstances surrounding Daulby’s death from a fatal gunshot wound.
