Russia claimed on Wednesday, March 25th that a Ukrainian drone barrage—numbering nearly 400 UAVs—ignited a fire at a major port in the country’s northwest. The attack came just one day after an unprecedentedly large Russian aerial assault on Ukraine.
A power plant in Estonia was also struck by a drone that entered the NATO member’s airspace from Russia. Meanwhile, another UAV crashed in Latvian territory, with officials in Riga stating it was likely a stray from Ukraine that had gone off target.
Reporting for AFP, Ania Tsoukanova notes that Ukrainian drone manufacturers say they have been inundated with requests from the Middle East since the outbreak of war in the Gulf region, likening the surging interest in Ukraine’s drone technology to a modern day gold rush.
These incidents follow a massive Russian daytime strike in which nearly 1,000 UAVs were fired at Ukraine over a 24-hour period starting late Monday. That assault killed eight people, striking the historic center of Lviv and residential areas in western Ukraine during the Tuesday evening rush hour.
