Policewoman killed as several homemade explosive devices detonated in Ukrainian city.

Sunday, February 22 saw widespread reports of multiple explosions at midnight in the Ukrainian city of Lviv. A police officer was killed and at least 24 other people were injured, with 14 in hospital.

According to Lviv Mayor Andrii Sadovyi

This was a terrorist attack. At present, 14 victims have been hospitalized.

The fallen officer was described by Lviv Oblast’s Prosecutor’s Office as a 23-year-old policewoman, whose patrol car was also damaged in the blast. It appears that as police arrived to investigate reports of intruders in a shop, devices were detonated in a specific targeted attack.

After Mayor Sadovyi blamed terrorism for the incident, without naming names, Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskiy posted on X that police had detained a suspect—subsequently described as a 33-year-old female citizen of Ukraine.
