Sunday, February 22 saw widespread reports of multiple explosions at midnight in the Ukrainian city of Lviv. A police officer was killed and at least 24 other people were injured, with 14 in hospital.
According to Lviv Mayor Andrii Sadovyi
This was a terrorist attack. At present, 14 victims have been hospitalized.
The fallen officer was described by Lviv Oblast’s Prosecutor’s Office as a 23-year-old policewoman, whose patrol car was also damaged in the blast. It appears that as police arrived to investigate reports of intruders in a shop, devices were detonated in a specific targeted attack.
Local police used the Telegram messaging service to announce that
It has been preliminarily established that homemade explosive devices detonated.
After Mayor Sadovyi blamed terrorism for the incident, without naming names, Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskiy posted on X that police had detained a suspect—subsequently described as a 33-year-old female citizen of Ukraine.
