Provisional figures show around 700 migrants arrived in UK waters today, Tuesday, April 15th—a record high. This beats the most recent outlier, a spiking daily total of 656 people making an illegal ‘small boat crossing’ earlier in the week, in turn making a mockery of Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s pledge to ‘smash the gangs,’ thereby stopping the crossings.

GB News reports that, to date, these latest crossings take the number who’ve made this perilous journey this year to nearly 9,000. At this point last year, statistics showed that 6,265 had crossed, indicating a 40% increase.

Observers should not be tempted to blame the mild weather, as the numbers have actually increased during a period with rain showers and unpredictable conditions.
