Italian media reported on a “revolt” by migrants transferred to a detention centre in Albania on Sunday.

The 40 men, denied asylum by the Italian authorities and under expulsion orders, arrived at the Gjader centre on board of a ship on Sunday, April 13th. Some 20 members of the group then proceded to vandalise the premises, tearing up mattress, destroying furniture and breaking windows.

Three of the men involved also cut themselves, with doctors at the centre having to tend to the self-inflicted injuries.

Italian Il Tempo, citing Italian private cable television network Rete 4, also added that one of the men whose expulsion order had been cancelled was transferred back to Italy.

The news website recalled that the Italian Left is up in arms about the plastic  handcuffs used to restrain the migrants during the sea journey. The same leftist politicians who portray the migrants as victims seem to forget that the failed asylum seekers in question are not just any migrants looking for work and opportunities. As shared by Italian Minister of the Interior Matteo Piantedosi, they are all accused or convicted of serious crimes such as attempted murder, sexual violence, aggravated injuries, child pornography, brawling, theft, robbery, obscene acts in proximity to minors, carrying weapons, possession of narcotics, solicitation of minors, and the list goes on. Hence the use of the plastic handcuffs that also serve to protect the police, the website noted.
