A 43-year-old woman was stabbed in the back on Monday, October 3rd, in central Milan’s Piazza Gae Aulenti. She was taken to the Niguarda Hospital in critical condition after being attacked with a large kitchen knife at around 9 a.m.
The victim was found with the knife still lodged near her left armpit. She told police she didn’t see her attacker, who fled immediately after the assault. No witnesses saw the stabbing, and investigators are reviewing security camera footage.
The attack happened during rush hour at a busy area near Garibaldi Station. According to witnesses, the woman’s husband arrived shortly afterwards and accompanied her to the hospital. At the time of reporting in the Italian media, doctors were operating on her to control serious injuries to her lung and spleen.
Police continue to search for the suspect as Milan residents express shock over the daylight attack in one of the city’s safest districts.
