Lithuania says that its people were returned from Belarus safely, praising the international efforts to help secure their freedom.

President Alexander Lukashenko’s Belarusian government has released 52 political prisoners, according to Lithuania’s President Gitanas Nauseda. Writing on X, Nauseda confirmed that “52 prisoners safely crossed the Lithuanian border from Belarus today.” This includes six Lithuanian nationals.

Nauseda  highlighted Trump’s role in securing their release, adding

I am deeply grateful to the United States and personally to President Donald Trump for their continued efforts to free political prisoners.

The development marks a significant step in easing tensions in the region and comes amid ongoing international scrutiny of Belarus’s human rights record.

The move follows the release of Belarus opposition figure Sergei Tikhanovsky, following an appeal from the White House, in June this year.
