Forty-two people were injured when an express train crashed with a passenger train in southern Czech Republic on Thursday, November 20th, rescuers said. The accident occurred near the city of České Budějovice about 150 kilometres (100 miles) south of Prague.
“There are 40 people with light injuries and two with serious injuries,” ambulance service spokeswoman Petra Kafková said. She added the accident was reported in the early morning hours, around 5:00 AM.
Martin Kavka, a spokesman for the rail operator Správa železnic, told AFP all passengers were already evacuated from the trains. He declined to say how the crash happened, adding that the investigation was still ongoing.
