Romania’s newly elected president, Nicuşor Dan, was officially sworn into office on Monday, May 26th, marking the end of the country’s most turbulent political crisis in decades.

During a joint session of Parliament, Dan signed the constitutional oath of office. In his inaugural speech, he pledged to address Romania’s economic difficulties and emphasized a new era of cooperation between the state and its citizens. “I assure you that I will be a president who listens to the voice of society and who is a partner to that society,” he added.

“The Romanian state needs a fundamental change,” Dan told lawmakers. “And I invite you to continue to be involved with all the social force you have proven, to put positive pressure on the institutions of the Romanian state so that they can reform.”

Dan’s swearing-in comes after the annulment of the previous election, which triggered widespread protests and political paralysis. While his inauguration signals signs of stability, he now faces the challenge of restoring public trust and enacting reforms in an economy still struggling to recover.
