Northern European states announced on Thursday, October 13th that they will contribute $500 million (€430m) to a NATO program designed to buy U.S. weapons and ammunition for Ukraine.
Finland, Denmark, Estonia, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway and Sweden said the funding will support Ukraine’s most urgent military needs under NATO’s Prioritised Ukraine Requirements List (PURL), a mechanism launched in July by U.S. President Donald Trump and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte.
“This joint pledge shows our continued commitment to Ukraine,” said Finland’s Defence Minister Antti Hakkanen, emphasizing the need for rapid delivery of defense equipment.
In a joint statement, the countries condemned Russia’s invasion, calling it a long-term threat to European and global security and vowed: “We will not allow it to succeed.”
