As we reported, the European Parliament will vote today, October 9th, on a motion of no confidence against Ursula von der Leyen and the European Commission. The motions against European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen were submitted independently by the Patriots for Europe group and the Left.
In a Facebook post published on Thursday, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán predicted that the European Parliament will shield von der Leyen, switching to their “laundry” mode, as they did with Hungarian opposition leader Péter Magyar on Tuesday.
Orbán reminded that von der Leyen’s policies have weakened Europe, from “green overregulation” to uncontrolled migration and the continued funding of the war in Ukraine.
The prime minister vowed that Hungary will continue to speak up. “They may try to impose their will from Brussels,” he wrote, “but we will have our say—first in today’s vote, and then at the Peace March in October.”
Fidesz is organizing what it expects to be a massive rally and march in support of the government on October 23rd, Hungary’s national holiday commemorating the 1956 revolution and freedom fight.
